California-based firm SCP Auctions announced Monday (local time) that a baseball signed by 11 baseball players including Babe Ruth, Cy Young and Ty Cobb was sold at 623,369 U.S. dollars.

This ball was signed at a Hall of Fame opening held in Cooperstown, New York in June 1939. Twelve players were supposed to sign on the ball, but Henry Louis Gehrig, the first base man of New York Yankees, was not able to attend the event due to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, which is called Lou Gehrig’s disease after his name. That is why only 11 players signed on the ball.
