After the Los Angeles Dodgers lost Game 5 of the Major League Baseball’s World Series championship, Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig boldly predicted that there would be a Game 7, and he was correct. The Dodgers, which were pushed to elimination after winning two games and losing three, evened the Series with a come-from-behind 3-1 victory over the Houston Astros. Statistics are in the Dodgers’ favor.

There have been 16 World Series championships that saw Game 7 with the team with the home-turf advantage having won Game 6. Of the 16 times, the home team lifted the championship trophy in 14 cases.

The Dodgers seemed hopeless when they were losing 1-0 after allowing the Astros a home run with Houston’s ace pitcher Justin Verlander was on the mound. Verlander overwhelmed the Dodgers hitters by allowing just one base hit and struck out eight with just 69 pitches by the fifth inning.

The situation changed, however, from the sixth inning. Seizing their first scoring chance with a base hit and another runner hit by a pitched ball, the Dodgers came from behind with a 2-1 lead with a double base hit and a sacrifice fly. Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen, who blew saves in Game 2 and 5, shut out two innings. The Astros failed to get additional scores.

Will the Astros grab its first Series title or will the Dodgers return to the top for the first time in 29 years? It all has come down to the winner-take-all final match on Thursday.
