Though it is early in the new season, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), who paid the highest transfer fee ever to sign a contract with 25-year-old Brazilian soccer player Neymar, is in quandaries due to conflicts between Neymar and the team’s star player, Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani (35).

Thirty five minutes into the second half, PSG was leading 1-0 against Olympique Lyonnais on Monday. When the team was allowed a penalty kick, Neymar tried to take the kick from Cavani. When refused, the Brazilian striker moved backward while shaking his head. Cavani missed the penalty kick, but PSG won the game 2-0.

After the game, Cavani said it was “an argument that can occur in the field.” When reports came out that Neymar requested a transfer of Cavani to the team, things began snowballing. “Neymar told PSG chairman, Nasser Al-Khalifi, that he cannot play with Cavani,” reported some European media outlets. “Cavani could be offloaded from the team in winter as Al-Khalifi wants Neymar to lead the team.”

PSG is trying to put off the fire as media and social media continue to spread the clash between them. “PSG says Cavani will still be a kicker,” reported Marca. “The team worries about whether the spat between two players will affect the team’s mood.”

In the meantime, fans are disappointed at Neymar who tried to make the team sell Cavani. PSG is keeping its top position in the league with six wins and no loss. Cavani ranked second in scores with seven goals, while Neymar tied for fourth in scores with four goals and tied for top spot in assist by registering four assists.
