Floyd Mayweather Jr. (40) of the U.S. beat Conor McGregor (29) of Ireland by technical knockout in 1 minute and 45th second in the 10th round in a super welterweight class (69.85 kg) professional boxing match of the World Boxing Council, which took place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, the U.S. on Saturday oval time.

By winning the match, Mayweather has achieved the milestone of 50 wins and no loss, unprecedented in the history of boxing, and declared his retirement. McGregor lost the match, but he displayed a match of equals against the legendary boxing champion to emerge as a UFC hero who kept the pride of the martial art sport. McGregor showed amazing commitment that enabled him to continue the match through the 10th round. Hence, even experts who had widely predicted his loss to be inevitable said that the outcome was a surprise.

The boxing match between a professional boxer and a UFC fighter, the first of its kind duel ever, was a mega event that drew attention from fans around the world, but analysts widely speculated McGregor’s hopeless loss from the beginning. The very fact that McGregor, who uses the entire body in UFC matches, had to have a showdown with Mayweather was widely considered nonsense, given all his wins at the 49 matches. Nonetheless, McGregor displayed robust boxing skills from early parts of the match.

From the latter part of the ninth round, McGregor was seen the strength of his legs depleted. Mayweather did not lose the chance to launch ruthless attacks. As soon as the 10th round started, Mayweather accurately struck his right straight punches in McGregor’s face. McGregor was barely standing by holding the ring. Referee Robert Byrd judged that the match cannot be continued, and declared Mayweather’s win. After the event, McGregor said, “I judged initially that I had a good chance to win. I thought it was early stoppage by the referee.”
