Phillis Meti of New Zealand broke the world record for women's long drives on Wednesday by hitting a drive that flew more than 400 yards.

According to U.S. media outlets specializing in golf news on Thursday, the New Zealander hit a 406 yard-long drive at the World Long Driving Championships held at the Park Hill Golf Club in Denver, Colorado in the United States, breaking the previous record (391 yards) set by Sandra Carlborg of Sweden in 2009. The ball flew about 340 yards off the tee before bouncing another 60-plus yards down the grid. Metti said she did not expect the ball to fly that far.

At that time, Metti’s club speed reached 119 miles per hour, far above the women golfers’ average of 90 miles. The ball’s speed hit 177 miles per hour. The 183-centimenter-tall New Zealander of aboriginal descent used the Vivid XT golf balls made by a South Korean company named Volvik. Her previous record was 430 yards.

Meti, a four-time winner of the World Long Driving Championships, finished second by being defeated by Troy Mullins of the United States who hit a 343-meter bomb at the final.
