Three years after the Sewol Ferry crisis

Adults become deeply embarrassed in every April in Korea. At 10:17 a.m. on April 16, 2014, students had their last chance to interact with this world as they were trapped inside the sinking Sewol ferry.

An instant message sent by a student to the parents said, “We are told to wait, but there's no more announcement.” It is indeed immensely disgraceful and regretful just to breath in this world as an adult when thinking of those students who had to die as they did not lose their faith on adults.

This Saturday marks the third year after the sinking of Sewol ferry. Luckily enough, the ferry has been salvaged and is currently lying at the Mokpo New Port. The first thing the government should prioritize is recovering the remains of missing passengers for the bereaved who has been waiting anxiously for such a long time.

Their hope for a vital sign on the day of the crisis were crushed in just a day. Their hope for recovering the corpse were also discouraged, and then they were eventually left to pray in order to recover at least the remains of their loved ones. To restore their long-lost hopes, the government should do its utmost for the bereaved, even if they were left with only a handful of remains.
