Incheon International Airport has taken the top spot in airport service quality in the world, staying atop for 12 consecutive years.

According to Incheon International Airport Corporation on Tuesday, the Airport Council International conducted a survey on customer satisfaction in service and facility operation last year among users of airports around the world. Incheon Airport garnered 4.99 of the possible 5 points to rank first overall. Since an incident in which luggage processing was delayed en masse last year, Incheon Airport has prepared a comprehensive measure to improve service and started a project to advance airport operation.

Speedy immigration process has been made possible thanks to the operation of mobile check-in counters, and the installation of additional security clearance booths. The Incheon airport also improved amenities including expansion of sites to receive purchased duty free products. In addition, the airport has significantly expanded parking facilities, public transportation networks, and airport information service.

As a result, the airport handled a total of 57.76 million people last year, which is an increase of 17.2 percent year-on-year. The airport also processed 2.73 million tons of cargos. "Incheon Airport has achieved an annual average growth of 6.7 percent in number of passengers since its inauguration in 2001, rapidly growing to become a hub airport in Northeast Asia," ACI said in its assessment.

“We will consolidate our position as the world's leading airport by improving service quality and launching Terminal 2,” said IIAC President Chung Il-young.
