Korea ranks No. 8 in mobile broadband penetration

has the eighth largest market in terms of mobile penetration, of which service is being used via smartphones, tablet PCs, and navigation devices among 35 OECD countries.

According to the OECD's broadband statistics update released on Sunday, Korea had mobile broadband penetration of 109 percent as of June last year.

Japan topped the list with 146.4 percent followed by Finland with 139.4 percent, Sweden with 124.7 percent, Denmark with 123.9 percent, the U.S. with 122.3 percent, Estonia with 116.5 percent and Australia with 116.4 percent.

The mobile broadband penetration rate is calculated by summing up data-only subscription and data and voice subscriptions altogether.

The data revealed that Koreans relatively subscribe more "data and voice services," with their smartphones (1.076 subscriptions per capita) than "dedicated mobile data" with tables or navigation devices (0.015 subscription per capita)."

Korea topped the data-voice subscription category among the 33 OECD countries surveyed, followed by Sweden (1.026 subscriptions per capita), Finland (1.011 subscriptions) and Denmark (1.008 subscriptions).
