As the first heat wave warning was issued across the nation on Thursday, the scorching heat is expected to peak this weekend. The heat warning was the first since 2008 when the Korea Meteorological Administration introduced the heat wave warning system.

According to the state weather agency, the first heat wave warning was issued in most parts of the country except some islands and the sweltering heat that reaches its peak will continue until Sunday. The weather agency explained that the heat wave could be blamed on a flow of heated air from China to the Korean Peninsula and the strong sunlight is also raising the temperature.

Temperatures are expected to soar to record levels across the nation until Sunday as sunny days continue and strong sunlight heats the land. But there is a chance of shower mainly on the central region of the country from Sunday. If daytime highs exceed over 33 degrees Celsius and heat waves continue by the weekend, it means that heat wave warnings have been issuing in Seoul for 12 consecutive days.
