As many as 6,309 people applied for the Youth Allowance Program of the Seoul metropolitan government, which it promised to provide subsidies to 3,000 unemployed youths. If the applications sent by post are reflected, the competition would be even more intensified.
According to the Seoul metropolitan government on Sunday, the applications have soared, starting from 232 on the first day of application on July 4 to 1,124 on July 14 and 2,568 on July 15. The server was down on the last day, causing an extension of the application deadline from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The average age of applicants was 26.4 years old and the average unemployment period was 19.4 months. The average household income, calculated based on the payment of health insurance, was 2.68 million won (2,360 U.S. dollars) for salaried employees and 2.07 million (1,820 dollars) for the self-employed, or 75 percent and 58 percent, respectively, of the median income of a three-member household this year (3.58 million won or 3,150 dollars).
