The security level of the Han River Park areas in Seoul will be significantly strengthened. The number of CCTVs in the parks will double and an integrated security control center will be built to monitor all CCTVs in the areas.

According to the Seoul City's Han River development team on Wednesday, 60 million people visit the river parks annually and there are 336 CCTVs. However, most of them are obsolete or of low-quality, undermining the security level. In order to solve the problem, Seoul will replace old CCTVs, make sure that there are no blind spots, and double the number of CCTVs in the area within this year.

Seoul will also establish an integrated security control center that can monitor and control the CCTVs in real time. The city is examining a plan to spend 30 billion won to build the control center in the Yeouido area. In the center, "monitoring operators" will work 24 hours in shifts. Currently, 11 information centers in the areas are monitoring the CCTVs. The current system is not efficient for quick response to crimes because operators need to report any suspicious behavior or emergency situations to the headquarters first.

Toilets in the area will also be improved extensively. Now male and female toilets are next to one another, but they will be separated. The number of female-only toilets will also increase from the current four. "Since the murder case near the Gangnam Metro Station, many people have been afraid of using public facilities. An official of the Han River project team noted, with the new control center and implementation of a one-stop report system, crimes will be prevented from happening or dealt with quickly."
