A rehabilitation hospital for children with disabilities will soon open in Sangam, Mapo area of Seoul. It will be the only hospital in Korea that specializes in providing integrated care for both disabled and non-disabled kids.

The Mapo District Office announced on Tuesday, “Pureme Nexon Children’s Rehabilitation Hospital” is scheduled to begin business from April 28. The facility was constructed on the site of approximately 3,210 m² in Sangam, with the scale of seven stories on the ground and three stories underground, the building’s gross area reaching 18,571.52 m². The total expenses for the construction was 46.5 billion won. Among them, 20 billion won was sponsored by Nexon Corporation, an online game developer, and the remainder was supported by the city of Seoul as well as future operating expenses. The site was offered by the Mapo District Office. The Purme Foundation is commissioned to operate the hospital a long-term contract.

The facility is equipped with 91 beds for accommodation and 40 beds for outpatients, equivalent to a capacity of treating up to 500 patients per day, and 150,000 annually. Four medical departments, including rehabilitation medicine, pediatric medicine, pediatric psychiatry and dentistry, will be available. Various kinds of rehabilitation treatments, such as physical, occupational, cognitive, and language therapies, will be provided. A spacious swimming pool, children’s library, sports center, and an auditorium will be open to the public.

“I believe that the hospital will give great hope to children with disabilities who had difficulties receiving appropriate care due to lack of facilities,” said Mapo Governor Park Hong-seop. “It will also play a central role in the local community by allowing access to the facility by the residents.”
