The 2nd Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism is to open between September and November next year. City officials and experts on architecture and urbanism from across the world visit various places such as Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), Sejongdaero and Architecture & Urban Museum in Seoul to share relevant information and discuss future urban models.

The biennale began in 2017 as Korea’s first festival for academic exchange and exhibitions regarding urbanism and architecture. Back then, the event was held to discuss "shared cities" with 120 organizations and 40 universities from 50 cities overseas, drawing more than 460,000 visitors.

The 2nd biennale’s topic is "assembled cities," meaning that it matters to understand today’s cities and project their future from a perspective that cities are a combination of space, time and society in interactions.

The Seoul city government said that participants will discuss types of assembled cities from a small alley to a group of cities, and share relevant information to identify future models.

DDP, Donuimun Museum Village, and Architecture & Urban Museum that opens in the first half of next year will hold various expositions by topic and by city, and carry out a project named "Seoul Lab," which is a think tank that studies to see if the topics of the biennale can turn into applicable lessions to other cities. In line with it, various programs are to allow the participation of citizens as well as international studios in collaboration with Korean and overseas universities.
