The average selling price (ASP) of smartphones in South Korea is the second highest in the world next to Japan.

The ASP of smartphones in South Korea this year is 529 U.S. dollars on average, following 650 dollars of Japan, according to Strategy Analytics on Wednesday, a market research firm. The result was due to the popularity of high-priced flagship in the two countries.

The ASP refers to the average price at which manufacturers sell their smartphones to mobile carriers. The retail price is determined after a 20-30 percent distribution margin is added to the ASP. The higher the ASP is, the higher the retail price becomes since the distribution margin is almost the same in all countries.
