Korean parents have turned out to prefer money over carnations. Telecommunications giant SK Telecom analyzed big data related to Parents’ Day through its social analysis service Smart Inside, and found out Thursday that cash gifts were more popular among gift givers. The most popular option was to mix flowers and cash for parents.

According to the key word analysis, people considered gifting cash, beauty products and health supplements for mothers, whereas most opted for health supplements for fathers. This analysis was based on 57,186 data from online articles, blogs and online boards posted from January 2016 to April 15, 2018.

The analysis also found from 7,401 key words that the gift choices were made based on monetary reasons such as price, discount and free shipping, which was more than the key words related to aesthetic reasons (6,063) such as design, color and size.
