Incheon subway line 2 will be extended to Gwangmyeong in Gyeonggi province. Incheon City announced Sunday that it will begin the preliminary feasibility research study in the latter half of this year for the city’s subway extension project (from Incheon Grand Park Station to New Ansan Line) to further facilitate convenience of passengers using the country’s high-speed train, or KTX. The extension will allow residents of Incheon, Siheung, Bucheon, Ansan and Gwangmyeong to use KTX more conveniently and help expand the railroad network in the southwest region of the metropolitan area.

The research study will compare three candidate lines connecting Incheon Grand Park station and New Ansan line to find the best route that is most economically feasible and will secure the government approval. The three routes include Incheon Grand Park to KTX Gwangmyeong station (12.8 km), Incheon Grand Park to Doksan (13.9 km), and Incheon Grand Park to Maewha (8.6 km). Incheon city plans to complete the research study in the latter half of the next year and apply to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport for a preliminary feasibility study permit, with the best route.

“The extension project is included in the third national railroad network construction plan drawn up in June 2016, and a pledge for the Incheon region under the government’s five-year plan,” said the municipal official.
