“Is there a job that pays over 66 million won (approximately 58,000 U.S. dollars) for working 50 days a year?” The answer was “yes.”

A driver based in Seoul who belongs to the Jeju Office of Education was turned out to have been paid over 60 million won (53,000 dollars) for working just around 50 days a year. The Jeju Audit Committee announced a report on the result of the audit for 2017 on Friday. According to the report, the Jeju Office of Education had sent a driver with the Seoul liaison office and an office located in Seoul for three years from 1993. Even after the liaison office closed, he has been working in Seoul for 21 years for senior officials including the superintendent and the deputy superintendent.

He kept his travel log by using an online management system at home in Seoul. He drove only about 50 days or 17 percent of the average working days of 299 days for the recent 30 months. His annual salary last year was 66,452,000 won (approximately 59,068 U.S. dollars). He got the highest rating for his incentive bonus. He has been promoted timely and he is now a Level 6 driver official. He will be a public employee pension when he retires next year.

The audit board has advised the Office of Education to improve the system as the driver who worked from home for about 200 days could demotivate other employees.
