Six armed North Korean soldiers have crossed into the Changbai Korean Autonomous County in northeastern China, prompting the Chinese authorities to go on a manhunt for several days.

According to sources in China’s Jilin Province on Thursday, the provincial public security authorities sent a text message to local residents and officials, notifying them to be on alert and immediately report the six armed North Koreans’ location if they are sighted.

The North Korean soldiers with arms and ammunitions belonged to security forces along the border area with China and illegally crossed the border from the North’s Kim Hyung Jik County. It was not known why they deserted their posts. The Chinese border and public security forces are on the manhunt for the North Korean soldiers. There have been no reports of crimes or accidents involving them yet.

There have been an increasing number of North Korean soldiers, often in groups, crossing the border to China and killing Chinese people.

On July 28, 2016, five runaway North Korean soldiers broke into residents' houses in the county and committed robbery. Chinese police reportedly arrested two after a gunfight, with the rest running away.
