Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe met with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump in New York to discuss bilateral matters including U.S.-Japan alliance and Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) on Thursday (local time). Abe became the first leader to hold a summit with the next U.S. president since his victory on Nov. 9.

After an hour of talks with Trump at his residence Manhattan Trump Tower, Abe expressed his delightful chat, saying that the president-elect spared his time despite the busy schedule, and he was confident Trump was indeed a reliable leader.

Abe said that they spoke from the bottom of our hearts in a calm manner, and shared a candid dialogue, adding that he basically told his counterpart about his ideas, and covered various tasks. However, he did not disclose the details of the one-hour meeting. After the meeting, Trump posted a photo on his Facebook page, and said, "It was a pleasure to have Prime Minister Shinzo Abe stop by my home and begin a great friendship."
