The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Friday local time closed its 60th general conference by unanimously adopting a resolution to deplore nuclear tests conducted by North Korea.

The IAEA’s resolution condemned North Korea’s 1st to 5th nuclear tests “in the strongest terms,” and stated that “under the Non-Proliferation Treaty, North Korea cannot be recognized as a nuclear nation.”

The nuclear watchdog urged Pyongyang to comply with all the obligations set by the UN Security Council, and take concrete steps to denuclearize under the 9·19 joint declaration. The international agency also expressed serious concerns over possible operations of North Korean reprocessing facilities, along with the recent announcement made by the reclusive regime that the reclusive nation has reprocessed spent fuel and produced highly enriched uranium facilities.

The recent resolution has been signed by a total of 70 nations (63 last year), with South Korean allies such as the U.S. and Canada, and also Kenya, Nigeria, and Qatar, which joined hands for the first time. “The recent resolution adopted by IAEA has reaffirmed the firm will of the international society that it will show ‘zero-tolerance to North Korean nuclear weapons’ by sending a strong and clear message against illegal nuclear activities taken by the North,” The South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
