YouGov, an internet-based market research agency, released its survey results of people in 30 countries that selected the top 20 admired figures of the world.
U.S. President Barack Obama, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Hong Kong actor Jackie Chan ranked from second to fourth. Renowned theoretical physicist and cosmologist Stephen Hawking (5th), Russian President Vladimir Putin (6th), Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg (7th), Tibetan religious leader Dalai Lama (8th), Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi (9th) and Alibaba Chairman Jack Ma (10th) have been listed in top 10.
Putin shot up to sixth this year from 11th last year. Pope Francis slipped from sixth last year to 13th this year, falling behind Putin. Putin ranked No. 1 in Russia and ranked the highest in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Morocco when excluding the countries' native figures. He ranked fourth in China.
