The U.S. government is raising the level of pressure on China, with Secretary John Kerry’s scheduled visit on Wednesday, calling for its help with imposing sanctions against North Korea for its recent nuclear test.

"Given that Kim Jong Un conducted the nuclear test despite China’s opposition, China’s message seems not have been delivered properly to the regime," a high-level U.S. official told the Dong-A Ilbo on Sunday. “There will be more things the Chinese government could do. China should take the recent incident as an opportunity to find a way to deter and restrain North Korea's nuke ambition.”

The U.S. official warned that the international community will impose specific sanctions to the North through the UN Security Council. "The international society wants negotiations within the boundary of six party talks to address the issue," he said. “The international community is committed to imposing tough sanctions this time, and any further provocations will lead to nothing but a dead-end street to the North."
