U.S. President Donald Trump specified May as the timing for a North Korea-U.S. summit, which will determine the North’s denuclearization. In his speech at a meeting in Washington Township, Michigan on Saturday (local time), President Trump said it would be a very important (North Korea-U.S.) summit for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. “We will have a meeting over the next three or four weeks,” he said. If his remarks hold true, the summit will take place during May 14 – May 25. On the timing of the talks, President Trump already told his White House meeting on April 9, “It will be late May or early June.”

President Trump also said the candidate locations for the summit have been narrowed to two. In his joint press conference following summit with German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the White House on Friday, Trump said, “We’re setting up meetings now. We’re down to two countries, as to a site, and we’ll let you know what that site is.” Citing sources in the Trump administration, CNN reported that Washington prefers Singapore to Mongolia (among the two potential candidate sites).

President Moon Jae-in had a 75-minute call with President Trump on Saturday, and discussed about the results of his summit with Kim Jong Un. The call was the longest among the calls between Moon and Trump since Moon’s inauguration in May last year.

“Chairman Kim Jong Un speaks highly of President Trump’s decision that has made a historic Pyongyang-Washington summit possible. I think if he meets with President Trump, they will have frank seamless communications,” presidential spokesman Kim Eui-kyum said. President Trump reportedly replied that confirm‎ing the goal of a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula through complete denuclearization following the Panmunjom declaration is very good news to the entire world as well as to South and North Korea.
