Trump kicks off his 12-day trip to Asia

U.S. President Donald Trump kicked off his inaugural visit to Asia on Friday (local time), making a stop in Hawaii to receive a briefing from the U.S. Pacific Command. The stop precedes his tour of Asia that starts with Japan on Sunday and is followed by South Korea, China, Vietnam and the Philippines till Nov. 14.

“President Trump will seek to strengthen international resolve to denuclearize North Korea during his visit to Asia,” announced the White House Thursday.

Leaving Japan in early Tuesday, Trump will head to the American military base of Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province in South Korea, and then meet with South Korean President Moon Jae-in for bilateral and extended meetings at the presidential office Cheong Wa Dae and will hold a joint press conference. The First Couples of South Korea and the United States will also have a time to stroll along Sangchunjae (Spring House), a traditional Korean building at Cheong Wa Dae. On next day, Trump will speak at the National Assembly for the first time in 24 years as U.S. president.

Then President Trump will head to Beijing on Wednesday and will have a summit with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping. Upon his arrival, President Xi plans to bring Trump to San Xi Tang located in the Forbidden City, which was used as the library of the Qianlong Emperor of the Qing Dynasty. Some interpret this location as being chosen by China to give President Trump some time to “calm himself” with a cup of tea before speaking harshly of North Korea.
