LG Chem will exclusively supply reverse osmosis (RO) filters to the largest seawater desalination plants in Egypt.

The company announced on Sunday that it has been selected as a sole supplier of RO filters to the desalination plants of 300,000 tons that Metito, a global water treatment company, is constructing in El Galalah and Port Said, Egypt. The total capacity could provide some one million people with fresh water every day. LG Chem will begin the supply of its products from the second half of this year.

The Red Sea area where El Galalah is located is known to have the highest salt concentration and temperature of sea water in the world. The RO filters put high pressure on solutions of different concentration, making only water molecule to pass membrane (sophisticated water filtering apparatus that looks like a thin sheet) to be treated. With its industry-leading filtering technology that boasts the desalination rate at 99.85 percent, LG Chem has been received more favorably than its competitors.

In 2016, LG Chem won the contract to supply its filters to 250,000-ton plants in Oman in the Middle East. Adding another large-sized contract this time, the company has laid the strong foundation to leap forward as a leading desalination firm in the world. LG Chem plans to make its full-swing effort to find new markets in other countries such as China and India as well.
