The design of the Stinger, a rear-wheel-drive sedan for five passengers, is based on the GT concept car, which was showcased at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2011. The concept car's mass production took six years. Peter Schreyer, one of three Kia presidents and Hyundai Motor Group's chief designer, took the helm of the project, and Albert Biermann, Hyundai's head of vehicle testing and high performance development, took charge of driving tests, bringing more than 30 years of experience in the fields.
Kia will introduce two gasoline models, each with the Theta II 2.0 Turbo GDI and Lambda II V6 3.3 Twin Turbo GDI engines. British car magazine Autocar said that the Stinger will compete with the likes of Audi A4, BMW 3 series, and Mercedes Benz C class models. The Stinger will be introduced to Korean market in the first half of this year.
