It has been reported that Samsung’s Galaxy S7 has supplanted Apple’s iPhone 7 as the best-selling cellphone model in Korea thanks to the huge popularity of its new Blue Coral Galaxy S7 (pictured). Blue coral was the most popular color for the Galaxy Note7 whose production was suspended last month.

According to the announcement of the wireless communications industry on Monday, the daily average sales of the Galaxy S7 have gradually increased to surpass the mark of 15,000 since the color of blue coral was introduced on Nov. 11. The figure is up by 2,000 per day after the addition of blue coral into the line-up. By contrast, the sales of the iPhone 7, which trumped all competitors for a while since the release late last month, fell below its initial sales of 20,000 a day.

The competition between the iPhone 7 and Galaxy S7 has been neck and neck since last month. Atlas Research & Consulting, a local research agency, has found that the Galaxy S7 had been the best-selling smartphone in Korea through September and October before handing over the throne to the iPhone 7 in the fourth week of October when Apple’s latest smartphone was introduced in Korea.

“As many as 10,000 blue coral Galaxies were sold in the first week alone,” said an official of a local mobile carrier. “The blue corals were practically all sold out the minute they hit the warehouse.”

Following the blue coral color, Samsung Electronics is planning to introduce a glossy “Black Onyx” color.

“If Samsung rolls out the new black color next month, they will be able to keep the sales momentum until the launch of the Galaxy S8,” said an official of a local mobile carrier.
