Hyundai Motor's overseas sales top 23.63 million units

Hyundai Motor has achieved accumulated overseas sales of 23.63 million units for the past 40 years.

Hyundai Motor celebrated its 40th year in making overseas foray with the launch of its new Ioniq on Nov. 16 (local time) in Guayaquil, Ecuador, the company said. Guayaquil is the port city where six units of the Hyundai Pony were first arrived on foreign soil in June 1976.

Boosted by the continued growth in export, the cumulative exports of Hyundai Motor amounted to 23,632,832 units from 1976 to October this year, and Hyundai’s vehicles have been exported to 184 countries. If the Hyundai Avante lines up according to Hyundai export record, the total length is equal to 2.7 times of the circumference of the earth (about 40,000 kilometers).

Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors have showed a steady growth in Europe this year. According to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association, in the first 10 months of this year, Hyundai and Kia sold 415,360 units and 363,755 units, respectively, to 28 member countries of the EU, by each surging by 8.6 percent and 13.8 percent year-on-year.

Thanks to such strong sales, the market share of Hyundai and Kia in the European market rose by 6.3 percent, an increase of 0.2 percentage point from last year. In the meantime, the market share of Toyota and Nissan in the market recorded 4.2 percent and 3.7 percent, respectively, which was similar or a slight decrease year-on-year.
