The founding mission of Emerson Collective, an organization established by Laurene Powell Jobs (53), the widow of Steve Jobs (1955-2011, co-founder of Apple), is to remove barriers to opportunity so that people can live their full potential.

She plans to actively use Hollywood to realize her ideals. The New York Time reported Friday that one of the richest women in the world decided to invest in Anonymous Content, an entertainment company in Los Angeles, via Emerson Collective. Anonymous Content produced the movie “Spotlight,” which depicted the story of reporters who uncovered Boston’s Catholic child abuse scandal. "I believe in the power of storytelling like movies to shape our culture and improve lives and the investment will give Anonymous the money needed to make programming intended to compel social change,” Ms. Powell Jobs said in a statement.

Emerson Collective takes its name from Ralph Waldo Emerson, the representative literary philosopher of the U.S. “We all possess the transformative potential and we believe deeply in self-reliance," the founder of Emerson Collective said. "We will help individuals to achieve their dreams and make effort to create a world where everyone can fulfill his or her potential.” She already committed 100 million dollars for enhancing high school education, invested startups pursuing educational innovations, and continued donations to support for minorities and immigrant policies. All her moves came from such belief. She is known to give huge donations to Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

According to Forbes, Ms. Powell Jobs is a major investor of Apple and the largest shareholder of Walt Disney Company. Her fortune is estimated as 17.6 billion dollars, mostly inherited from her husband.
