CJ Korea Express, Korea’s largest logistics company, announced on Thursday that it will invest 122.7 billion won (approx. 111.12 million U.S. dollars) to install the automated parcel sorting system at its sub terminals. As such, the automated system, which is currently operating only at the hub terminals, will be expanded to sub terminals. This will allow more deliveries and improve working conditions of delivery men.

CJ Korea Express has five hub terminals and around 200 sub terminals across the country. The company plans to install Wheel Sorter, the co-researched solution with a domestic SME, at sub terminals by April 2018. Wheel Sorter automatically sorts by region parcel boxes moving on the conveyor belt.

When completed, CJ Korea Express will have the completely automated sorting system for the first time in Korea. The automated system will shorten the sorting time by one hour from the current two-four hours. “The automated system will not only enhance customer satisfaction but also give more profit to delivery men,” said a company official. "It will lead to an increase in delivery volume."
