The gas boiler of Kiturami Boiler embedded with earthquake sensor automatically stopped operation when earthquakes occurred in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang. Kiturami Boiler ensured people that the earthquake sensor was in operation.

According to Kiturami on Tuesday, requests for Kiturami Boiler repair increased in Gyeongju following the recent earthquake. More than 3,500 questions on the boiler operation suspension were reported for the past week including the Chuseok holidays.

The operation suspension is not because the boiler system failed but that the boiler sensed earthquake and suspended operation, Kiturami explains. Since 20 years ago, the boiler company has embedded the boiler with earthquake sensor and gas leakage sensor. The company tries to prevent secondary damages such as explosion and fire by suspending the boiler operation when vibration is sensed due to earthquake and construction. The Korean Peninsula had been regarded as a safe place free of earthquakes 20 years ago, and the earthquake prevention system is thus getting the spotlight recently.

"When an earthquake occurs in Korea where there are many high story apartments and officetels, the safety issue of gas boilers are all the more important," Kiturami said. "The boiler that is suspended automatically identifies safety, and a user can simply press the reactivation button to resume operation."
