A wireless Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) technology has been developed for the first time in Korea. KT Corporation, one of the country’s largest telecommunications companies, held a press conference at KT Square in downtown Seoul on Thursday to announce its plan to launch the Olleh TV Air, an exterior terminal device connecting the Internet modem with an IPTV set-up box wirelessly.

Under the design of the new device, an Internet modem and an IPTV set-up box will be connected wirelessly detached as far as 50 meters away from each other, allowing users to move IPTVs much more easily as they do with their laptops or smartphones. Conventional IPTVs were hard to remove once installed as their cables were physically connected to the set-up box.

Wireless IPTVs will also obviate the need to get the visiting service of cable workers for installation or removal as wiring work is unnecessary.

The Olleh TV Air is priced at 89.15 dollars (value-added tax excluded). New subscribers to the combined plan for the Internet and IPTV services can use the wireless IPTV service for free. KT is planning to unveil a new built-in version of the Olleh TV Air next year.
