Dongwon Group has unveiled a series of prepared food products with the concept of homemade meals. The size of meal replacement market is expanding these days and fierce competition in the market is expected as Dongwon, which has a rich history of engaging in the distribution industry of food and fisheries products, enters into the market.

Dongwon Group announced Monday that it newly released 12 food items under the name Salt Cut, a low sodium prepared meal brand of the company, via Chalim, its online shopping mall providing homemade food and ingredient delivery service. New items including "roasted eggplant and tomato salad" and "fried flatfish with cream sauce" are developed in collaboration with Gangnam Severance Hospital in Seoul and contain less sodium by more than 20 percent.

Before the release of Salt Cut series, Dongwon Industries Co., a Dongwon subsidiary for processing and distribution of fisheries goods, started to sell "Dongwon Ready-to-Cook Grilled Fish (photo)," which provides the natural taste of grilled fish by reheating in a microwave, from last Tuesday. The company first introduced three types of grilled mackerels with different flavors, and plans to launch multiple products such as pacific saury and flatfish. Dongwon F&B Co., Ltd., another Dongwon for food production, also rolled out five items of frozen rice products at the end of last month.

The reason why Dongwon Group simultaneously releases a series of home meal replacements is because of its high hopes for the market. “We started to unify company-wide efforts to the market as we saw huge potential for growth with an increase of single-person and dual-income households,” a Dongwon insider said.
