Samsung Electronics has decided to name the next version of its Galaxy Note model Galaxy Note 7 in lieu of the Galaxy Note 6. The company is expected to ease confusion by unifying the number for the Galaxy Note 7 and that of the Galaxy S7, and help keep in check the upcoming iPhone 7 from Apple to be launched in September.

Samsung has sent invitation Wednesday to the Galaxy Note 7 unpack event that will open at 11 a.m. on August 2 in New York to its global media partners and developers. The company will also hold unpack events in Rio de Janeiro and London at the same time.

Samsung Electronics implicitly provides hints of core functions of the product concerned every time it sends such invitations. The latest invite features an image of 16 "S pencils" in a circular shape on the left side on black background, and many experts say the image means the new device is equipped with iris recognition technology. On the right side of the invite is an image of S Pencil placed horizontally, which emphasizes that the functions of S Pencil have been significantly strengthened.

“The ‘note’ function of the Galaxy Note 7 has been significantly reinforced, and software has been upgraded to improve users’ convenience,” said Koh Dong-jin, president of Samsung's mobile business division. “(Third quarter) earnings will be a bit challenging but are expected to be not bad. The market itself has shrunken significantly, but we will not be obsessed with figures.”
