Samsung ranked first in most of smart phone emerging markets for the first quarter of this year. On the other hand, Apple, which procrastinated in investing in the middle and low price lineup, received performance report that is worse than expectation.

According to the latest research from Strategy Analytics on Sunday, Samsung ranked first in smart phone sales in 14 markets out of the “15 smartphone emerging markets.” Every quarter, the research firm selects 15 nations with high growth possibility in smart phone market and makes research on the sales and market occupancy of each manufacturer.

The 15 emerging markets for the first quarter include Indonesia, which has recently risen as one of the five prospective markets, Vietnam, Thailand, Nigeria, Colombia, Poland, Australia, Egypt, Malaysia, the Philippines, Portugal, Romania, Turkey, the Netherlands and Argentina, all of which sold some 45 million smart phone devices or 14 percents of the entire smart phone shipments (some 333 million units) for the first quarter.

Samsung came out first in 14 nations, missing only the Philippines where their local firm of Cherry Mobile ranked first. The nations in which Samsung seized 35 percent or higher market share included Egypt (55 %), Romania (42 %), Poland (38 %), Turkey (39 %) and Portugal (38 %). Even in Indonesia, which has shown one of the fastest market growth in the world, Samsung grabbed 24.7 percent of market share. With the 4th largest population of 250 million people, a total of 9.7 million units were sold in Indonesia in the first quarter, the largest sales among the 15 nations.
