LG Display is supplying display panels to U.S. electric car maker Tesla's Model 3.

According to display sources on Monday, LG Display has agreed with Tesla to supply 15-inch touchscreens to Model 3's center console. Situated between the driver's and passenger seats, the center console functions as an infotainment tool.

Model 3 is a pure sedan-type electric vehicle with a five-seater to go on sale in the second half of next year. First unveiled at the end of March this year, Model 3 has become highly popular with pre-orders having exceeded 400,000 units. This is more than the performance of Nissan's Leaf, the world's best selling electric vehicle, that was sold 201,991 units for the past six years.

Model 3 can run up to 215 miles (The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's certified figure) on a full charge and gets to 60 mph in six seconds. It has received huge interest in Korea, with news posted on social media that former DreamWiz CEO Lee Chan-jin and Bluehole's game director Lee Sang-kyun having made pre-orders.
