LG Hausys' plan to penetrate the North America market has begun, as it has built a factory to manufacture car seat fabric in the U.S. The company had a factory completion ceremony on Tuesday (local time) in Gordon County, Georgia. Being constructed for 40 million dollars (approx. 45.2 billion won) since July 2014, the factory has a capacity to produce 6 million square meters of car seat fabric a year.

LG Hausys will supply fabric manufactured at the factory to Hyundai-Kia Motors America, General Motors, and Chrysler in North America. In October last year, LG Hausys was selected as "the supplier of the year" by Johnson Controls, which is the top car seat maker in the world. This shows that LG Hausys' competitiveness in the market. The company is now considering building additional factories to produce dashboards and door fabric, as the output of cars in North America keeps increasing.

With the completion of the factory, LG Hausys' total capacity increased to 37 million square meters of fabric a year. The company also has factories in Ulsan and Tianjin, China, which respectively produce 25 million and 6 million square meters of fabric a year.

"LG Hausys started in 2004 as an imitation marble maker and has now grown to a bigger company that has 400 employees in the U.S. alone," LG Hausys President Oh Jang-soo remarked at the ceremony.
