“The culture industry will be a new growth momentum going forward,” Huh Chang-soo, chairman of the Federation of Korean Industries and the GS Group, said at “Davos 2016: Korea Night” in Switzerland on Thursday afternoon (local time). The event, which has been held in line with the World Economic Forum in Davos since 2009, marks the eighth anniversary this year.

This year’s theme is “K-Culture, Connect to the World.” “Korean companies are doing their best to revitalize the economy and increase the value of the country’s brand by fostering culture,” Huh told global leaders at the World Economic Forum.

The event was attended by some 800 Korean and global political and economic leaders including SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon, Rep. Choi Kyung-hwan of the ruling Saenuri Party, World Bank President Kim Yong and JPMorgan Chase International Chairman Jacob Frenkel.

“Korea has been making economic growth by combining its 5,000 years of cultural heritage and creative ideas,” President Park Geun-hye said in a video message. “Korea will contribute to making a better world by connecting the world with the language of culture.”
