LG Electronics introduced the "Whisen Duel Air Conditioner" that offers the functions of air conditioning, air cleaning and dehumidifying all at the once, and hence can be used throughout the year. It is a "smart air conditioner" that figures out indoor environment by itself, and automatically determines the volume and intensity of cold air it blows out. The new air conditioner is priced at 2.6 million won (2,140 U.S. dollars) to 4.3 million won (3,550 dollars) depending on its different models.

“The Whisen Duel Air Conditioner will be on the market from Friday. It is a new-concept electronic appliance for healthy life that manages air quality within the home throughout the four seasons,” Cho Seong-jin, head of LG Electronics H&A’s business, said at a press meeting at LG Twin Tower in Seoul on Tuesday. “The device even monitors ultrafine dust and improves indoor air quality, and is capable of dehumidifying up to 100 liters per day, which makes it useful throughout the year.”

The Whisen Duel Air Conditioner is equipped with a surveillance camera monitoring human bodies. The camera serves as an "eye" that checks the number and locations of people, and level of their activities within a radius of up to five meters and at angle of 105 degrees to the right and the left, and automatically adjusts the direction and intensity of blowing.

Unlike conventional air conditioners that set the intensity and direction of cooling according to the condition of existing spaces, the Whisen Duel Air Conditioner supplies air conditioning according to the location of people. For instance, one of the two blowers sends soft cold wind for a person in the living room, while the other blower sends strong cold wind for a person in the kitchen, who is far away from the air conditioner, to ensure cold blowing can reach the remote person.

During spring, fall and winter seasons when the air conditioning function is not in use, the air conditioner can be used as air cleaner and dehumidifier. The Whisen Duel Air Conditioner is equipped with "365 Smart Air Cleaning System" that senses indoor air quality and cleans the air. The system can removes not only ordinary dust but also ultrafine dust, bad smells from daily living, and toxic gas. Since it can remove up to 99 percent of ultrafine dust, it acquired the validation of Certification Air Conditioner from the Korea Air Cleaning Association.

Moreover, the new device comes with a built-in "Smart Automatic Drying" function that is capable of removing fungus within the heat exchanger, which causes unpleasant smell in blowing from air conditioners.

“Starting with the Whisen Duel Air Conditioner, we will interlink ‘SmartThinQ’ that allows controlling of refrigerator, washing machine, and robotic vacuum cleaner through a smartphone application,” President Cho said. “We will continue to introduce diverse fusion and conversion products that are equipped with diverse functions like the Whisen Duel Air Conditioner.”
