Twelve cars of Hyundai Motor Group have been selected as some of the safest vehicles in a U.S. crash test.

The U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) on Wednesday (local time) announced the results of its crash tests for vehicles released in the U.S. market this year and their safety ratings. Hyundai Motor Group had the largest number of vehicles named on the “Top Safety Pick Plus” rating. Among the 12 vehicles, the Elantra compact, Sonata midsize sedan, Kona subcompact sport-utility vehicle, Santa Fe SUV, Genesis G70, G80 and G90 were released by Hyundai Motor Co. Its affiliate, Kia Motors Corp., earned the top ratings for the Forte compact, K5 midsize sedan, Niro hybrid, Niro plug-in hybrid, and Sorento.

Seven vehicles of Japan’s Subaru earned the top rating, followed by three from Mercedes-Benz, two each from Toyota Motors Corp. and BMW, and one each from Honda, Lexus, Mazda and Acura. “It is meaningful that all of the Genesis brand’s three vehicles were named on the list.” Hyundai Motor said.

Founded in 1959 as a nonprofit organization, the IIHS is known for conducting the most difficult crash test in the U.S. The IIHS conducts crash tests on hundreds of vehicles and announces the results every year.
