LG Pay, a mobile payment and digital wallet service by LG Electronics, has arrived at two major domestic retailers Shinsegae and SPC. The mobile payment service has become available at the two retailers just six months after its launch in early June, while it took more than one year for them to accept a similar service by rival Samsung Electronics Co.

LG Electronics said Wednesday that its mobile payment service became available from that day at around 3,300 shops operated by Shinsegae affiliates, including Shinsegae Department Store and E-Mart stores, and over 6,000 SPC shop, such as Paris Baguette, Baskin Robins and Dunkin Donuts.

Currently, LG’s latest premium smartphones such as the V30, V30 Plus, G6 and G6 Plus – all released this year – are equipped with the mobile payment system. LG plans to launch the service on lower-priced smartphone models to be released from next year and on.

However, it is still impossible for LG Pay customers to make payments with credit or check cards in partnership with the retailers that provide discounts and points deposits along with payments. About 60 check and credit cards in partnership with SPC and around 40 cards partnered with Shinsegae cannot be registered on LG Pay, as the registration requires the establishment of a separate program. “We are currently working on the program to allow the use of partner cards,” an LG official said.
