Preorders for Samsung Electronics’ new flagship smartphone "Galaxy Note 8" hit 400,000 units on day 1. The figure is higher than the total number of preorders for its predecessor Galaxy Note 7.

According to Samsung Electronics on Friday, Galaxy Note 8 preorders received by three largest mobile carriers namely SK telecom, KT and LG U+ amounted to 395,000 units on Thursday, the first day of taking preorders for the new smartphone. The Galaxy Note 7 posted a total of 380,000 preorders for 13 days in August last year.

The number of preorders for the new model is very high apparently because there has been a significant volume of pent-up demand for the Note series due to its predecessor catching fire, and because Samsung staged an aggressive marketing campaign this time around. The carriers will continue to take preorders through next Thursday, and telecom service for the new mobile phone will start on next Friday, beginning with those who placed preorders. The device will be put to ordinary sale beginning September 21.
