Hana Card enters Japan's payment market targeting Chinese tourists

Hana Card is entering the Japanese payment service market by setting up a subsidiary in Japan.

According to Hana Card on Wednesday, it established a subsidiary "Hana Card Payment" in Japan. Hana has previously signed memorandum of understanding with local companies in China and Vietnam, but this is the first time to advance overseas by setting up a subsidiary.

Hana Card Payment will offer purchase services for China's WeChat Pay in Japan. WeChat Pay is a mobile payment service by Chines IT company Tencent, which is used by 600 million Chinese people annually.

Hana plans to target 6 million Chinese tourists visiting in Japan every year. Hana Card has also signed a memorandum of understanding with Japanese airlines ANA for expansion of WeChat payment.
