LG Electronics will adopt a six-inch OLED panel on its new flagship smartphone, the “V30,” to be released in the second half of this year. Its strategy is to use a bigger screen and a higher resolution display.

LG said on Thursday that the V30 to be released at IFA 2017, a trade show in Berlin, on August 31, will have an 18:9-ratio six-inch OLED panel.

A six-inch screen is the largest among LG’s smartphone displays. The V20, the previous version, had a 5.7-inch panel. Instead of growing the size of the screen, it reduced the top and bottom bezels by 20 percent and 50 percent, respectively, making the smartphone smaller. It is the first smartphone that LG moved its logo from the bottom of the front to the back.

It is the first time that LG adopted an OLED display. It has used an LCD panel for the G-series and the V-series. An OLED panel in which pixels emit light organically will be brighter and vivid than an LCD panel that needs a backlight.
