Lee Seok-soo, the independent inspector of the presidential office, has handed in his resignation and Song Hee-young, a former chief editorial writer of the Chosun Ilbo, resigned, but presidential office of Cheong Wa Dae said their resignations should not be related to replacement of Woo Byung-woo, the senior presidential secretary for civil affair.

Presidential spokesperson Jeong Yeon-guk told reporters on Tuesday, “Nothing has changed (from the previous position),” when asked whether Lee’s announcement of his intent to resign and Song’s resignation would have some impact on Woo's position change. According to Cheong Wa Dae, allegations made on Woo are purely based on an intent to undermine the administration and Woo would stay as long as these allegations are not proven true or correct.

“It would be appropriate to wait if the special prosecutors can prove that Woo committed a crime or find out any sort of major ethical misbehaviors,“ said an official at Cheong Wa Dae. “There is no reason Woo should retire if the prosecutors cannot prove any of these accusations made on him are true even if he is summoned.”
