Saenuri Rep. Lee Han-gu (photo) has retired from the chairman of the national committee meeting of Saenuri Party on Friday. On a phone call with Saenuri floor leader Won Yoo-chul, he stated his intention to retire and submit in an official waiver. The empty position will possibly go to the most-elected member, Seo Cheong-won (eight times), according to the party regulations. The national committee meeting is an organization that decides who is chosen for the party's emergency planning committee, which will be complete early next week.

Lee has been criticized for allegedly ruining the nomination process as the chairman of the party's nomination management committee for the April 13 general elections. Especially, he intentionally did not choose anti-Park members such as Yoo Seong-min (elected as independent), causing intra-party conflict.

In a phone interview with the Dong-A Ilbo, Lee remarked, "The leadership of the party has all resigned for losing the elections on Thursday. I did the same, hoping that the party can start fresh." He did not mention about him being the cause of the nomination issue.
