The South Korean Unification Ministry made an official announcement that Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, is 30 years old this year.

On Thursday, the Unification Ministry published a book titled “Information on Major North Korean Figures in 2019,” which revealed her age. The book from last year said Kim’s aged was “unknown,” adding some rumors putting her birth year either in 1987, 1988, or 1989. “We made a comprehensive analysis on various sources of information,” said a ministry official. “There is no possibility of modification in the future.”

In January last year, the U.S. government specified Kim Yo Jong’s birth year as 1989, imposing sanctions on her on charges of human rights violation. Back then, the South Korean Unification Ministry cited a rumor that she was born in 1987 but said it could not confirm‎ it as an official record. Reportedly, the South Korean authorities identified Kim’s age in the process of engaging in increasingly robust inter-Korean exchanges.

As to the birth date of Kim Jong Un, the North Korean dictator, the publication kept the previous record of January 8, 1984 (there are rumors he was born either in 1982 or 1983).
