There was no time difference related issues at the inter-Korea high-level talks held on Tuesday contrary to earlier concerns.

Leading up to the talks, North Korea had originally notified South Korea of the starting and ending times of duties according to Pyongyang Time, which is 30 minutes later than Korea Standard Time. This was also the case in August 2015 when high-level contact was made. The day after the Panmunjom communication channels were restored, the call from South Korea’s Ministry of Unification at 9 a.m. to begin duty was not answered but had a return call 30 minutes later.

Fortunately, the high-level talks began smoothly without delay at 10 a.m. Tuesday Korea Standard Time. It was decided to begin the ministerial level talks at 9:30 a.m. Pyongyang Time because the dialogue venue, Peace House, is located in the southern region of Panmunjom.
