American popstar Ariana Grande has become an honorary citizen of Manchester City of the U.K. She held a benefit concert in Manchester, saying that she would not give in to terrorism.

On May 22, a terrorist attack at her concert arena in Manchester killed 22 people and injured 59 people. The 23-year-old popstar returned to Manchester on June 5 and held a benefit concert “One Love Manchester” with other popstars. She visited children who had been injured at the concert arena and became the first patron of a fund set up for the victims and survivors of the attack.

Impressed by this, the Manchester City Council unanimously agreed to select Grande as an honorary citizen of Manchester at the proposal of Manchester City Council leader Sir Richard Leese on July 12 (local time). “It would have been understandable if she hadn’t return. Instead, she brought comfort to thousands, she raised millions for the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund,” Sir Leese said. “And that’s why I propose that Ariana Grande is made the first honorary citizen of the city of Manchester.”
