GA Korea Chairman Lee Dong-jun, who runs Gold Country Club in Yongin, Gyeonggi, and Korea CC, turned his eyes to the overseas market in 2007 and acquired Spring GA Resort located on Awaji Island near Kobe. However, this resort seemed to become a headache when the Japanese economy was hit directly by depression. “I had a hard time back then. I couldn’t afford to pay for the employees because there were no resort guests,” Lee recalled.

Despite the crisis, the chairman has made an effort in service improvement and course management for almost 10 years. As a result, his resort is named the best golf resort in Japan. This golf resort ranks first in the annual golf club resort rating by Rakuten Travel, Japan’s renowned online travel site. This is the first time for a Japanese resort owned by a Korean to top the list. The criteria include scale of resort guests, business performance, facility and service, and course conditions. The Sankei Shimbun reports the news, reading, “Japan’s No. 1 means the best anywhere in the world.”

Boasting the 18-hole course and a hotel with more than 100 rooms, the resort offers diverse facilities including a swimming pool. Especially all of the hotel rooms have an ocean view. “Now it is difficult to book a room during holiday seasons in Japan. I will keep doing my best to maintain the top spot,” said the chairman.
